Cowboy Films' first feature was Nick Love's debut film, GOODBYE CHARLIE BRIGHT in 2002. This was followed by THE HOLE (directed by Nick Hamm, staring Thora Birch and Keira Knightly) and the Anglo-Italian co-production THE SOUL KEEPER (directed by Roberto Faenza and staring Emilia Fox).

In 2006 Cowboy produced THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND, starring Forest Whitaker and James McAvoy. Directed by Kevin MacDonald, the film won a BAFTA for Best British Film and numerous other awards including an Oscar for Best Actor. The film was released worldwide by Fox Searchlight.

In 2008 the company produced its first TV drama, POPPY SHAKESPEARE. Starring Naomie Harris and Anna Maxwell Martin, the drama was a critical success when transmitted on Channel 4 - winning the BAFTA for Best Actress and the Best Independent Feature Film Award at the Santa Barbara Film Festival.

Recently completed is the cinema documentary FIRE IN BABYLON, which tells the story of the West Indies cricket team of the 1970's/80's and one of the greatest chapters in sporting history, exploring their achievement against the social, political and cultural backdrop of the period. The film is directed by Stevan Riley, and co-produced with Passion Pictures. The film premiers at the London Film Festival and will be released in Spring 2011.

Production has now started on a 4 x 60 minute drama for Channel 4 entitled TOP BOY. Written by Ronan Bennett, this is a thriller set in the world of drugs and crime on the streets of Hackney and will transmit in Autumn 2011.

 

 

In addition the company has produced a number of short films including Andrea Arnold's Oscar-winning short film WASP. Most recently Cowboy produced Martina Amati's debut short, A'MARE, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2009 and her follow up film I-DO-AIR, which won the BAFTA for Best Short Film 2010.
